I write as the new chair of the Nottingham and Derby District and like you possibly, having found my way to the site, I am hoping to find all the information I require to help me in my new role. We should find information about local churches and their mission, local contact details so we can ring the right person with our question and details of all sorts of worship and social events happening around the District. The site will also direct us to the wider Methodist church and also to Methodist organisations around the world. We, the Methodist people, are connected through our belief in God, but also through our local churches organised in circuits and through the District to the wider connexion and the world wide Methodist family. We are also connected in a myriad of others ways through our relationships, our interest groups and through media such as blogs, twitter and Facebook and obviously through our District web site. All of this information and networking gives us instant access to information and over the last few weeks while moving house and being unable to have an easy transition with the phone and internet provider has meant I have had very little contact with the outside world in the form of Facebook or emails. [Cant tweet!] Some would consider having no land line, no mobile signal at home and no internet access sheer bliss, but I considered it to be a real pain and dongles just dont cut it. It also made me consider if I rely too much on this form of media. Whatever our view, the internet provides us with information at our fingertips, literally, and I urge you within the District to use this site to your advantage and advertise your events. Let us know what is happening in your part of the District, share your good news stories and let us all be encouraged by the great things that are happening, many of which I am discovering for the first time and its really exciting. While waiting to take up my post I regularly dipped into the web site to find out more about the circuits, to read the news and to see what was coming up, it was very helpful so thank you to all of those who have shared your information and let us have much more sharing.
Every blessing... Loraine |
