Presbyteral Synod
The Presbyteral Synod meets annually in the Spring and is a meeting of the 100 plus presbyters in the District. It is an opportunity for the Presbyters to discuss the life of the church, especially any matters that come from the Conference. Reports are received about candidates and ordinands for the ministry, plus they hear testimony from presbyters who are retiring (sitting down) and obituaries of colleagues who have died in the last year. It is also the gathering at which they renew their commitment to their ministry.
Representative Synod
Representative Synod meets twice a year in September and April. It is made up of local ministers, and lay members who have been elected by their churches/circuits. In addition to dealing with matters of business, it is an opportunity for the District to gather together for worship and fellowship, and for purposes going beyond the conduct of business. Everyone is welcome to attend the Representative Synod, although non-registered attendees will be unable to vote on the business.
